Energy Saving Week!
This half term, GNSA Primary have been celebrating Energy Saving Week!
Each class, led by their Eco-Master, took part in creating 5 pledges to follow throughout the week.
A big well done to all the classes for their amazing and resourceful ideas to save energy in their classes.
The Eco-Masters selected 4SB as the winning class! A big well done to 4SB for their hard work and effort to save energy, take a look at their pledge below:
It is important for us to remember that saving energy is not something that we celebrate or practise once a year.
Why should we save energy?
There are a number of reasons why you should consider cutting back on energy consumption. First of all, reducing energy use limits the number of carbon emissions in the environment. Carbon emissions play a significant role in climate change, which is thought to be the cause of powerful natural disasters in recent years. With billions of harmful emissions in the atmosphere, cutting back is always a good thing.
How can you save energy at home?
Top ten rules for saving energy
-
Shut off the lights when you're done using them, and turn off the TV, computer, video games and other electrical stuff when you leave the room.
-
Don’t leave the refrigerator door open. Every time you open the door, up to one-third of the cold air can escape.
-
Replace a burnt-out light bulb with a new compact fluorescent bulb. Fluorescent bulbs use 75 percent less energy, and they last 10 times longer.
-
Remind adults to use cold water in the washing machine. Hot water won't get the clothes any cleaner, and it wastes a lot of energy.
-
Fix dripping faucets. One drop per second can add up to 165 gallons of hot water a month - that's more than one person uses in two weeks!
-
Take a short shower instead of a long bath. It might take 25 gallons of hot water to fill the bathtub, compared to only seven gallons for a quick shower.
-
Reuse water bottles
-
Recycle as much as you can! Before throwing something in the general waste, stop and think ‘Can I recycle this?’
-
Help your mom or dad plant a tree to help shade your house on hot summer days.
-
Ride a bike or walk to school (if you cannot travel the whole journey, try parking across the school road and walk from there)
