Pupils at GNSA Primary celebrated this occasion by learning about the Sikh and Hindu festivals, the Sikh story of the release of the 6th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and the Hindu story of Rama and Sita. A special assembly was held at the school Gurdwara in which students recited shabads, explained the Bandi Chhor Divas story and read the poems in Punjabi. Pupils celebrated this auspicious day with lovely creative and enjoyable activities. During lessons, pupils made their own diva lamps by using clay and decorated them using a range of materials. 

All the classes in the Primary Phase took part in the Art Competition and the winners from each class were awarded certificates and prizes. They designed and decorated the beautiful Royal Robes of Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji. 

The robe is symbolic as it was worn by Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji when he was released from Gwalior Fort with the 52 Kings. When Guru Ji’s release was offered him by the Emperor Jehangir, Guru Ji rejected the offer unless the 52 imprisoned Hindu princes were also given their freedom. To meet the Emperor’s condition that only those who could hold on to his cloak could leave the prison with him, the Guru Ji had a unique robe made with 52 tassels to ensure no one was left behind. This shows Guru Ji's humble, compassionate and selfless nature.
