Children learn the importance of making a stand!

October is Black History Month in the UK and GNSA Primary marked this with Black History Day on Friday 8th October 2021.

Each year group spent the day learning about two individuals, discovering what each one did and thinking about their similarities and differences.

The children learnt about:

  • Reception - Differences and similarities
  • Year 1 - Pioneers: Mary Seacole and Mae C Jemison
  • Year 2 - Athletes: Simone Biles and Serena Williams
  • Year 3 - Making a Stand: Rosa Parks and Jesse Owens
  • Year 4 - Words that make a difference: Maya Angelou and Marcus Rashford
  • Year 5 - Political Movements: Dr Martin Luther King Jr and Barrack Obama
  • Year 6 - Anti-Slavery: Olaudah Equiano and Harriet Tubman

The children had a fantastic day and produced some incredible work with what they had learnt.

Finally they began to think about how they can stand up against injustices and make a difference at school, home and the wider community.
